We've experienced a boom in Boise over the past few years like we've never seen before, but that boom comes with some cons and some people are saying they are out of here!

According to Shelby Morgan,  who has lived in Idaho most of her life and weighs in on this issue at quora.com there are a lot of pros about living in the Boise area such as the fact that we have all four seasons and its a fairly safe place to live, but there are a few cons that may drive some people out.

The Cost of Housing Has Gone Way Up

When I moved to the Treasure Valley 3 1/2 years ago, housing was very affordable. I purchased a home and feel very blessed because if I were to purchase that same home right now it would be about $100,000 more!! Unless you live out in the middle of nowhere, I don't know how people afford housing these days during the Boise boom.

    Limited Shopping & Dining

I don't have an issue with this, I feel like we have fantastic restaurants and all the shopping I need, but when I tell people I live in Boise, one of the first questions I am asked is "where do you buy clothes?" Ha! There is also the common complaint that we don't have Inn 'n Out or IKEA and I am pretty bummed that Z-Gallerie just closed up shop at The Village.

    Lack of Diversity

If you're looking to live in an area that has a lot of multicultural people, Boise is probably not the place for you. I will say the Treasure Valley is more diverse than where I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, but yes 88% of people who live in the Boise area are Caucasian.

    They Don't Like Guns

If you are not a fan of guns, it doesn't mean you can't be perfectly happy living here, but just be aware that people are going to voice there opinion about the right to bear arms. Idaho is an open carry state, so anyone can have a gun on them. If you have issues with this, you may want to move out.

    Minimum Wage is Still $7.25

When I visited San Francisco over the holidays I noticed the starting wage to work at Burger King was $15/hr. Minimum wage around here is still $7.25, but it's all relative. You also can't buy a home in San Francisco for less than a million dollars, so I'll choose Boise any day!
